Description

GLA Terra Root Fertilizer – Aquarium Substrate Capsules - Root Tabs

Slow-release root fertilizer capsules provide essential macronutrients (N, P, K, Mg, Ca) directly to the plant root zone for enhanced growth, development, and nutrient uptake. Nutrients remain localized in the substrate to reduce water column impact, leaching, and nutrient spikes.

Formulated without trace elements or copper, GLA Terra Root Fertilizer supports stable nutrient delivery while preventing trace overdosing. Ideal for use alongside liquid fertilizers for complete nutrient coverage in planted aquariums.

  • Provides N, P, K, Mg, Ca for root development and growth
  • No iron or trace elements – avoids accumulation and water column interference
  • Copper-free – safe for shrimp and invertebrates
  • 40 capsules per resealable pouch

Instructions:

Insert 1 capsule every 2–3 inches deep into substrate near plant roots. Use additional capsules for larger plants, heavy root feeders, or nutrient-depleted zones. Replenish every 2–3 months or as needed.

Use with GLA Nectar liquid fertilizers for complete spectrum nutrient support, above and below the substrate.

There is no better substrate tablet you can get you can bet on that.

Posted by Kyle Cruz on 23rd Jun 2025

How many of you have used substrate fertilizer with zero results or adverse reactions, raise your hand ?. I’m that guy, and I’ll be real here. I spent decent money on Niloc Thrive capsules and those things jacked my tank up bad, honestly I’m not sure those people even know what they are doing or even if they test their products. The first thing they did to my 220g tank was severely cloud my tank, and I’m talking smoke bomb cloudy. I was livid because the whole time I thought I had a bacteria blow out. I was severely upset my tank was crashing. At this point I had only been a co2 customer of GLA, nothing for fertilizer. So, after much frustration and even arguing with my wife due to my poor mood because I worked very hard on this 220g tank I emailed GLA. My life changed I shit you not, Here’s how things went down. GLA was able to pinpoint the issue after a few minutes of dialogue. They had asked me a few questions about my fertilizer liquid (Thrive) and Thrive capsules. They had me take one capsule and put it into a cup of tank water. After just 5 minutes the water jug turned milky and cloudy, just like my tank! Pissed! I painstakingly removed all the Thrive capsules and in 24hrs my water was CLEAR! GLA kindly shipped these with speed and my plants have never looked better. Thick leaves, very rich color and best of all no clouding and no freaking mess. My whole life had changed lol. I wasn’t frustrated and my tank has been making an absolute comeback. These capsules from GLA are the real deal and WONT cloud your tank! Much love from the Cruze family!

Finally a Calcium rich substrate tablet!

Posted by Kenneth Brill on 23rd Jun 2025

I’ve been a long time GLA customer and as a lab tech with the pathology department at the aquatic plant pathology lab at University of Florida I’ve always told them they need to develop a calcium rich substrate fertilizer tablet with no iron. And boom! Here it is and I’ve gotta say these will bring absolute results to your plants. There is a lot of bad science out there where everybody is focusing on iron in the substrate. YOU DONT WANT SUPPLEMENTAL IRON IN YOUR SUBSTRATE. Iron in the substrate can cause stunting, locked nutrients, and a dump of nutrients all at once. It’s just bad for aquatic plant roots. I’ve only used one pack so far so more testing will conclude in the next few months. But holy cow my rosette plants are thick! If you have swords and crypts that struggle, these are what you want. Carpeting plants? Be ready to tame with scissors in due time. It’s the calcium that’s bringing in the health to aquatic plants. A huge mark missed with plant fertilizers and it’s just fantastic GLA has developed Terra to deliver it.

These substrate fertilizer tablets are incredible.

These things saved my scape and gave my plants an obvious needed boost. I used two packs in my 90cm scape every 2-3” because I wanted maximum coverage. It’s been 3 months and I e not used any other fertilizers even though I have GLA Nectar and Tropica on hand. I stopped using both. I’m at the point where I feel comfortable going on vacation while these things do their magic. Super impressed I’ll say abd I’ve tried a myriad of substrate fertilizers from Thrive(totally clouded my water) to EasyGreen and these definitely outpaced both combined. These are the real deal and pack the punch your roots are looking for.

You wont find a better substrate fertilizer.

Almost having gave up on planted tanks I decided to give it another go. I cant afford fancy substrate so i always get Fluval when its on sale. This time I layered in GLA tablets and holy cow. I dont know what those things are made of but its like crack to my plants. I dont know how often I should replenish them so I just add extra every 3 months and its been working our just fine. You can insert the tablets with tweezers with ease. But when I started the tank at the start I opened the capsules up and sprinkled the stuff all over. After my first 3 months I just inserted the capsules and Ive b een in balance since. Id say my tank is medium intensity with my Chihiros lights at 35%. I only use these tablets religiously and they are bomber!

    These are magic beans!

Posted by Kenneth Brill on 7th Apr 2025

I’ve used a number of substrate fertilizer tablets for many years. These remind me of the age old Plant Guild tablets(RIP). These things provide a steady release of fertilizer for a long period of time compared to many brands. These caps gave calcium and phosphorus, amongst other minerals. But it’s important to know that the main two critical for root absorption are calcium and phosphorous. If you are nerdy like me with fertilizers then these are what you’re looking for. These are as nerdy as it gets. Your plants will definitely thank you, and there won’t cloud your water like Thrive capsules.

I compared, tried and outcome with these was the best.

Make sure when you are looking for a substrate fertilizer your fert capsule contains calcium. Theee babies are loaded with calcium and my plants look awesome. Thrive capsules are absolute trash, don’t even waste your money. These are the real freaking deal and provide loads of nutrient into your substrate bed. I’m never looking back!

Best substrate fertilizer I’ve come across.

Posted by Paul Matthews on 14th Mar 2025

I don’t know what tablets I haven’t tried but I’ve tried every darn one available on Amazon and all the other plant vendors. Honestly I can’t ever even tell if any of them did much at all and led me to think it was the seachem fluorite I was using. Easy Green, Thrive tablets,Seachem, Glosso factory and Tropical never produced results I needed. I go on buisness trips several times a year and can’t dose my tank the way I need so I’ve always used tablets. In a last ditch effort I made some Osmocote tablets and that was a complete disaster. Then a friend of mine had a months long experience using GLA tablets, I gave it a try and to my surprise upon return from a business trip my tank was blossoming. The plants looked terrific and was shocked. I asked the wife if she did anything and she had not laid a finger on the tank. Looking at the label and comparing these to the other brands I see it’s far more nutrient complete. Namely the calcium. No other brand had any calcium. Nonetheless they were far more nutrient dense than the others. Ordered two more packs today to fill in some areas just to see what happens. These things work. That is all.

    Best substrate fertilizer available.

Posted by Jason King on 12th Mar 2025

Test all the other brands you want, none of them will be as nutrient dense as these. These have everything and then some, including calcium which most lack, if not all of them. These are game changers.

I’ve used every brand and these are amazing!

Posted by Nigel Atkinson on 9th Mar 2025

I’ve tried them all! Thrive,Easy Green,Seachem and Tropica and GLA easily outperformed them all. Thrive caps were terrible and clouded my tank daily and quite honestly they were just filled with a dirt matrix which I find absolutely silly. Seachem turned into a slime ball of sorts. Easy Green would float to the top of my substrate which was weird. Tropica just cost to much but worked well. With these you get a lot and boy do the plants thrive. I added mine while setting up my tank and opened the caps and sprinkled the stuff everywhere. Then capped with another layer of substrate. After a few months I just tweezed new ones in like normal. These are flat out great!

    These are magical!

Posted by Casey Miner on 18th Feb 2025

First time using this brand , but I’ve used several in my time. These are amazing and I was able to leave my tank for a whole summer with my house sitter. Granted I only had them top off water in the tank and nothing else. I came home to an absolute jungle of a tank and more surprisingly was my waters clarity. It was thick like a brick with lush growth but the clarity was like nothing I could achieve before but I take it the plant health did all that. I don’t know what voodoo is in these but I came to buy 4 more packs today!
