Description

GLA Terra Root Fertilizer – Aquarium Substrate Capsules - Root Tabs

Slow-release root fertilizer capsules provide essential macronutrients (N, P, K, Mg, Ca) directly to the plant root zone for enhanced growth, development, and nutrient uptake. Nutrients remain localized in the substrate to reduce water column impact, leaching, and nutrient spikes.

Formulated without trace elements or copper, GLA Terra Root Fertilizer supports stable nutrient delivery while preventing trace overdosing. Ideal for use alongside liquid fertilizers for complete nutrient coverage in planted aquariums.

  • Provides N, P, K, Mg, Ca for root development and growth
  • No iron or trace elements – avoids accumulation and water column interference
  • Copper-free – safe for shrimp and invertebrates
  • 40 capsules per resealable pouch

Instructions:

Insert 1 capsule every 2–3 inches deep into substrate near plant roots. Use additional capsules for larger plants, heavy root feeders, or nutrient-depleted zones. Replenish every 2–3 months or as needed.

Use with GLA Nectar liquid fertilizers for complete spectrum nutrient support, above and below the substrate.

Best substrate fertilizer I’ve come across.

Posted by Paul Matthews on 14th Mar 2025

I don’t know what tablets I haven’t tried but I’ve tried every darn one available on Amazon and all the other plant vendors. Honestly I can’t ever even tell if any of them did much at all and led me to think it was the seachem fluorite I was using. Easy Green, Thrive tablets,Seachem, Glosso factory and Tropical never produced results I needed. I go on buisness trips several times a year and can’t dose my tank the way I need so I’ve always used tablets. In a last ditch effort I made some Osmocote tablets and that was a complete disaster. Then a friend of mine had a months long experience using GLA tablets, I gave it a try and to my surprise upon return from a business trip my tank was blossoming. The plants looked terrific and was shocked. I asked the wife if she did anything and she had not laid a finger on the tank. Looking at the label and comparing these to the other brands I see it’s far more nutrient complete. Namely the calcium. No other brand had any calcium. Nonetheless they were far more nutrient dense than the others. Ordered two more packs today to fill in some areas just to see what happens. These things work. That is all.

    Best substrate fertilizer available.

Test all the other brands you want, none of them will be as nutrient dense as these. These have everything and then some, including calcium which most lack, if not all of them. These are game changers.

I’ve used every brand and these are amazing!

Posted by Nigel Atkinson on 9th Mar 2025

I’ve tried them all! Thrive,Easy Green,Seachem and Tropica and GLA easily outperformed them all. Thrive caps were terrible and clouded my tank daily and quite honestly they were just filled with a dirt matrix which I find absolutely silly. Seachem turned into a slime ball of sorts. Easy Green would float to the top of my substrate which was weird. Tropica just cost to much but worked well. With these you get a lot and boy do the plants thrive. I added mine while setting up my tank and opened the caps and sprinkled the stuff everywhere. Then capped with another layer of substrate. After a few months I just tweezed new ones in like normal. These are flat out great!

    These are magical!

Posted by Casey Miner on 18th Feb 2025

First time using this brand , but I’ve used several in my time. These are amazing and I was able to leave my tank for a whole summer with my house sitter. Granted I only had them top off water in the tank and nothing else. I came home to an absolute jungle of a tank and more surprisingly was my waters clarity. It was thick like a brick with lush growth but the clarity was like nothing I could achieve before but I take it the plant health did all that. I don’t know what voodoo is in these but I came to buy 4 more packs today!

No better substrate fertilizer and Ive used all of them!

Posted by John Vicksburg on 30th Dec 2024

This stuff is not to be confused with any other type because its been amazing for my plants. I feel they last me about 4-5 months. Somewhere between this range is when I add more. Results, are amazing. No cloudy water and no muck mess like Thrive tablets. These are 100x better and just wait to see what your plants do holy crap!

Ive used a lot, and GLA tabs are supirior.

Posted by Carlos Lampas on 5th Nov 2024

Dont confuse this with anything else on the market. This is a slow release tablet, and it wont cloud your tank. They also last a long time unlike Niloc tablets that disappear almost instantly. This aint no mud crap mixed with water soluble ferts. These are magic slow release balls with magic growth juice inside of them. They contain what roots need and my plants grow like bonkers.

    GLA Root Caps

Posted by Tony Castineiras on 15th Sep 2024

Very good fertilizer. Even better with CO2. Caps have to be buried deep in the substrate. The gelatin cap dissolves fast and the fertilizer spread on the surface of the substrate. Shrimp safe. My neocaridinas grazed on the fertilizer off the caps and they are still alive.

    Came free with co2 system

Posted by Nicole on 17th Aug 2023

I received these free with my co2 system. I've only had them in my tank for a few days, so I can't give any real feedback on the efficacy. I will give feedback that these should have a desiccant packet or something to reduce moisture. A lot of the ones in the packet I received had seemingly melted together. This could be from heat, moisture, or both. I have other gel capsules so I can still use the fertilizer.

2 years now on only tablets!

Posted by Javier Ochoa on 8th Jun 2023

I try them all, Niloc type,Seachem type and Aquario type. These GLA capsule work the best, and you get so many in one pack for a good price. I now go on 2 years maybe slightly more with only these tablets. I use 2 packs in my 90g tank. I refresh every 7-12 months depending on how plants are going. I notice when I do more frequent water changes during the year I need more. But when I stay on EI schedule with 50% water change everything is ok. I like not dosing and this has helped so much.
