Description
GLA Terra Root Fertilizer – Aquarium Substrate Capsules - Root Tabs
Slow-release root fertilizer capsules provide essential macronutrients (N, P, K, Mg, Ca) directly to the plant root zone for enhanced growth, development, and nutrient uptake. Nutrients remain localized in the substrate to reduce water column impact, leaching, and nutrient spikes.
Formulated without trace elements or copper, GLA Terra Root Fertilizer supports stable nutrient delivery while preventing trace overdosing. Ideal for use alongside liquid fertilizers for complete nutrient coverage in planted aquariums.
- Provides N, P, K, Mg, Ca for root development and growth
- No iron or trace elements – avoids accumulation and water column interference
- Copper-free – safe for shrimp and invertebrates
- 40 capsules per resealable pouch
Instructions:
Insert 1 capsule every 2–3 inches deep into substrate near plant roots. Use additional capsules for larger plants, heavy root feeders, or nutrient-depleted zones. Replenish every 2–3 months or as needed.
Use with GLA Nectar liquid fertilizers for complete spectrum nutrient support, above and below the substrate.

Tank is stable and happy.
Really enjoying this substrate fertilizer from GLA. I use these in my home tank and office tank and dose PPS-Pro on the side about 50% less than you normally would. Plant growth is great no stunting. You do need tweezers to plant these so make sure you use that or an old set of chopsticks, worked for me.

Very happy plants.
I switched to GLA capsules from Tropica a few months ago. The vigor I see from my plants now is night and day. You need tweezers to insert into the substrate, I use an old chopstick set. My stem plants especially the rotala species are looking much larger in terms of the leaves, the stem girth is noticeably larger and more robust. Not so soft anymore. My only wish is for them to create a solution for feeding rhizome plants or epiphytes that do not root into substrate. I dont prefer to dose my water column any more and is why i use fert tablets only. I have used every damn tablet on the market and decided to give these a try. These are the only ones worth leaving a review about because Im finally happy.:)

Where have you been all my life!
These babies are freaking awesome. You get a pack of 40 which to me is terrific. You will need a set of tweezers to push them into the soil but once they are in your plants are going to thank you with lush growth. My main reason for leaving this review was because my red plants have gone to level 1000 red. I wish I could post pictures here, if you could see you would buy these right now. I was using niloc fert caps but realized they contained copper and were just some dirt and plantex micros all mixed up. At the time I did not know any better, what a horrible mistake that was. This about it, a tablet with some dirt and micros, wtf? Dont be fooled by the kool Aid folks. GLA fert tabs are the cats pajamas.

Much better than what I expected
GLA sent me these prior to the launch and I have been using them for 5 months now. I like these so much Im going to stop dosing my liquid solutions completely once the tanks are mature enough. For new plants liquid or dry salts would be in order. You cant use these with epiphytes but they are great for anything growing in the substrate. One thing in particular I noticed with these is how it made my carpet plants more lush and deeper greens. It made me wonder more about what my plants were missing from the substrate. From what I recall all plants take up nutrients through the water column, and I dose my water column EI. I can only guess plants prefer nutrients through the roots and maybe this is why ADA substrate is so good. You will not regret starting to use GLA fertilizer capsules. As I type this they are giving these away for Free if you meet the required dollar amount.

Next level substrate fertilization
I was lucky enough to try these way before they came out with a few others to trial in a couple of aquascapes prior to AGA this year. These tablets are the real deal. These contain no copper nor are they some mystery mud mix. These things kept out plants in stellar condition and they do not create a mess after they are old. I use this along side a modified version of PPS only because the tank is very fast growing so we want quick nutrients after trimming. These will get your plants looking like I could never get them to prior. Ive only had them for 3 months and our dosing is definitely considerably less. We no longer have any measurable amounts of No3 in the tank or Po4. Prior we had about 10ppm of No3 and 2ppm Po4. The plants look super healthy, and to the best I can describe it is the plant leaves look very waxy. As if they are grown emerged form. Thats a terrible description but I cant say it any other way. These fertilizer tablets I believe are the next level in substrate fertilization. This shop keeps my bank account empty on the regular.
