Description
GLA External CO₂ Diffuser Atomizer (Inline)
The GLA External CO₂ Diffuser is an inline CO₂ diffusion device designed for installation outside of the aquarium. It installs directly into the outflow tubing and may be mounted horizontally or vertically, allowing flexibility to suit different plumbing layouts and cabinet configurations.
The diffuser features a waterflow resistance-free internal design with a large internal chamber that allows water to pass through freely without restriction. Unlike many inline diffusers that rely on narrow passages or column-style ceramic elements, this design minimizes flow loss while maintaining effective CO₂ diffusion without compromising filter flow.
CO₂ Diffusion Performance
A large ceramic diffusion membrane provides a wide gas output area, producing fine, dense, and uniform CO₂ microbubbles. The expanded diffusion surface improves dissolution efficiency while reducing the formation of larger bubbles commonly associated with smaller or restrictive inline diffusers.
The ceramic membrane is replaceable, allowing consistent long-term performance and straightforward servicing.
Visual Monitoring Window
A built-in clear visual window allows users to easily confirm that the diffuser is operating correctly. Bubble formation and CO₂ output can be verified at a glance without disconnecting hoses or removing the unit from service.
Construction & Serviceability
- Rigid aluminum housing secured with screw-fastened assembly for a leak-resistant seal
- Designed for long-term external use
- Fully disassemblable for thorough cleaning and maintenance
- Ceramic membrane is accessible for cleaning or replacement
The diffuser can be separated into individual components, simplifying maintenance and extending service life.
The GLA External CO₂ Diffuser provides efficient inline CO₂ diffusion with minimal impact on water flow. Its resistance-free internal design, replaceable ceramic membrane, visual monitoring window, and serviceable construction make it a reliable solution for planted aquariums requiring external CO₂ diffusion.
Installation
- External / inline installation (outside the aquarium)
- Horizontal or vertical mounting orientation

This is the jam!
This is THE INLINE diffuser. I’m using this in conjunction with GLA’s reactor and the results are absolutely magical. My ph drop is substantially faster than before. I use less co2. GLA should do a video on this combo because it’s the way to go no question!

I have 4 different brands of inline co2 diffusers and this one is the best by far.
Im definitely a co2 junkie when it comes to my planted tanks. Was buying some GLA Nectar and thought I’d give this a go to see how it measures up. I have a few inline diffuser so I feel my review is justified. My latest inline diffuser experience was the UNS Pro inline, which looks a lot like the GLA Atomic only different internally so I chose that UNS Pro. Looks pretty but longevity wise wasn’t worth the money. It used to many connections much like the Atomic. All these connections were advantageous for leaks. But the one thing I noticed from the beginning was the high pressure requirement and lackluster atomized co2. The UNS didn’t perform well and required a higher co2 bubble rate that resulted in large atomized bubbles, way too big. I switched back to the older GLA INLINE because it diffuser better and used less co2. Fast forward to now I recently installed this inline diffuser. What a difference, better atomized bubble, low operating pressure and fantastic results. It’s much shorter but fatter all around, a big CNC block of aluminum. The best part is it has a window so you can see when the ceramic needs cleaning. Absolutely genius. This is what I like to call a workhorse. While it may not look fancy, it’s just brilliant. And I can vibe with that.

Love it.
Very happy with this diffuser over the other Atomic type with that center mounted core. Much better atomized co2 and solid as can be, and I mean solid solid. It’s solid aluminum and fully serviceable. This thing will outlast my life on earth ?

What an absolute unit of an inline diffuser.
I was coming to buy the other style GLA sells but saw this and took a chance on it, glad I did because this design is superior. No obstruction by the ceramic internally. More surface area on the ceramic with a finer co2 bubble. Also the check valve works at normal psi level be the other style you need to either remove it or operate at 60+psi which I hated. Also worth mentioning its length is significantly shorter so its footprint is minimal. I’ll be switching all my inline diffusers to this type. I’m waiting on GLA’s 1” version they say is coming soon.

Very impressive inline co2 diffuser.
I’m addicted to my planted tanks that are mostly manicured gardens. No real aquascape but I enjoy growing rare stem plants and erios. I have quite a few diffusers including several inline varieties. I see this and had to try it and here’s something worth reviewing. 1. It has no limitations to the OD of whatever tubes you use. So long you meet the internal dimensions it doesn’t matter. This diffuser comes with stainless steel worm drive tube clamps. It’s not going to leak no way! 2. It has a built in low psi check valve. Huge plus with that because you don’t need an inline check valve. Not only that but it’s all serviceable, including the ceramic plate. Which is very well made. 3. Zero obstructions internally. It’s a straight through design so water flows right through with ease as the co2 is atomized within the chamber. This thing is a solid block of aluminum. High capacity ceramic plate that puts out a lot of atomized co2. If you like to provide co2 to your planted tanks this guy is nice. I implemented one of these right before my GLA CO2 reactor and oh my god it’s just an amazing system.
